Candidate for Bellevue City Council
EDDIE CHANG:
A Fresh Voice for Bellevue City Council
Bellevue is more than just a city to me; it's the place where I grew up, where I've built my career, and where I'm raising my family. I'm running for Bellevue City Council because I'm deeply invested in giving back to the community that has shaped who I am. I chose to return to Bellevue so my children could experience exceptional public education that is offered here. I'm committed to ensuring that Bellevue remains a city where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
My 19 years of experience in real estate and as a small business owner have provided me with a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing our community. Working alongside families, seniors, and business owners throughout Bellevue and the region, I've witnessed firsthand the impact of rising housing costs and the need for balanced economic growth. As a founding member of the Bellevue office of Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty and Vice Chair of the Washington State Real Estate Commission, I understand the complexities of our housing market and the importance of responsible development.
My commitment to public service is rooted in a deep belief in servant leadership – prioritizing the needs of others and fostering collaboration to build stronger communities. I’ve always strived to serve, from the Seattle Aquarium, the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, to the Washington Chess Federation. If elected to the city council, I will bring this same dedication to serving our community.
My priorities for Bellevue center on creating a more equitable and sustainable future for all. I will work tirelessly to expand housing opportunities at all levels, ensuring that our children and grandchildren can afford to live here. I am committed to protecting our environment, mitigating the impacts of climate change, and ensuring clean air and water for future generations. I will champion responsible economic growth that supports our local small businesses, fosters innovation, and creates quality jobs. And I will prioritize public safety, addressing homelessness with compassion, ensuring safe public spaces, and supporting innovative crisis response models.
Bellevue's strength lies in its diverse population, its innovative spirit, and its dedicated residents. I am committed to bringing transparency, inclusion, and a collaborative approach to every decision we make. Bellevue has given so much to me and my family, and I am eager to serve and help lead our city into its next chapter.
Bellevue: My Hometown
Bellevue is home - where I grew up, built my career, and now raise my family. I'm running for City Council to give back to the community that shaped me and to help ensure Bellevue remains a place where everyone can thrive.
Local Small Business Owner
With 19 years in real estate and small business, I bring firsthand insight into the challenges Bellevue faces -especially housing affordability and balanced growth. I understand our housing market and the need for smart, responsible development.
Invested in Community
My commitment to public service is grounded in servant leadership - putting others first and building community through collaboration. From the Seattle Aquarium to the Bellevue Chamber and Washington Chess Federation, I’ve always served with heart, and I’ll bring that same dedication to the City Council.
My Highest Priorities
Housing & Urban Planning
Housing is a basic need, yet Bellevue’s rising costs have made it increasingly out of reach for many. Limited supply and high demand have priced out too many in our community. As your City Council candidate, I’m committed to expanding housing options across all income levels—so more people can afford to live and thrive in the city they love.
Childcare
Bellevue must strengthen its childcare system to better support families. Too many parents—especially single parents—face the impossible choice between work and affordable, reliable care. This growing gap isn’t just a personal burden; it’s a community issue that affects our workforce and the well-being of our children.
Environmental Stewardship
Extreme weather, like last November’s bomb cyclone, highlights the urgent need for strong environmental action. We must both prepare our community for future climate challenges with resilient infrastructure and emergency planning, and protect our environment long-term—ensuring clean air, safe water, and a healthy future for all.
Economic Development
My vision for Bellevue’s economic growth centers on innovation, sustainability, and equity—especially by supporting our local small businesses. These businesses power job creation, fuel innovation, and shape our city’s unique character. On City Council, I’ll champion policies that help them thrive and drive a vibrant, resilient economy for all.
Public Safety
Bellevue’s future depends on a strong commitment to public safety for all. That means addressing root causes of crime, supporting law enforcement, and building strong community partnerships. I support expanding co-responder teams - pairing officers with mental health professionals - to ensure thoughtful, effective responses to crises and create a safer, more compassionate city.
